I am reporting back my first impressions of the adult-sized replica Krate E-BIKE that was recently delivered to me by Pedal Chopper.

Overall, I think the bike is awesome, and I am very happy with my purchase! I took the bike out on a 6 mile spin around my neighborhood.  I used just pedal assist and it was unbelievable!

I was pedaling for exercise and whenever I hit an incline and dropped below 15 mph the electric motor would kick in to get me back up to speed.

On steep hills it was even more amazing! I felt like the bionic man! I would just stay in 5th gear and keep pedaling and it would maintain 15 to 18 miles an hour with minimum additional effort from me.

The motor has 5 power settings, and the recommended power level for most situations is 3, but you can switch up or down on the fly. On level 1 or 2, a bit more pedaling effort is required to maintain higher speeds, and on level 4 you have to pedal super fast just to keep up... Speed level 5 is just for max speed and it will hit 25 to 28 mph on level ground. I have also hit 32 mph down the hill. That's fast on a bicycle!

In pedal assist mode I am thinking the battery will last well over 20 miles, but I will need to verify when I have more time to ride longer distances.

Of course, you can also use the thumb throttle to maintain speed without pedaling, but that draws the battery down faster and gets monotonous. Pedaling is so much more engaging and provides useful exercise.

In addition, you can use the bike as a standard pedal bike without the electric motor. Jim uses high-quality pressed bearings in the hubs, so the bike coasts exceptionally well. Also, the battery and motor add just 12 pounds of weight to the bike, so pedaling the bike with the electric motor assist is definitely practical.

 Regarding quality, the bike feels very solid, smooth, quiet and comfortable. The front and rear suspension really soak up the bumps, and the brakes do their job well, inspiring confidence, especially when you need to stop quickly. I could have ridden it all day long!  but it was a little too cold. Hopefully, we get some more warm days here in Northern, NJ before the Winter starts.       - ANTHONY P. UPDATE 6.15.25 - I had Loco Krate out yesterday for a Sunday ride and it was awesome!! The weather was a bit gloomy and depressing here in Northern NJ, but once I got out on the backroads where I live I felt great!! The endorphin and dopamine release made me feel fantastic for the rest of the day, and and the serotonin build up in my braid helped me sleep like a baby

My Sleep Number app scored me at an extremely high 94 when I am normally in the 70’s!! The bike is so comfortable and smooth, and with pedal assist I can expand my routes to change the scenery so it is never boring. I may have to do it again today!!

Ok, so I've gone over this thing with a fine tooth comb and I'll be honest, this is VERY WELL DONE‼️and it rides like a dream. Literally ZERO noise. The bearings you used and the fittings are perfect. 

It's hard to find this kind of quality these days. You built it like we're literally in 1956. It takes an engineers mind to recognize and appreciate what you're building.

Hi! I have an unusual post this time. I gotta give everyone interested in one of Jim Wilson ,Krates, a advance warning. These bikes are very attention getting! I ride mine everyday in good weather. You'll get tons of Thumbs Up! And comments like ,Hey, I had one like that! Or, I don't remember the model, but mine was Green! (Pea Picker?) Or, the most common comment, What's that thing? (Meaning the Shifter!) This has got to be one of the best parts of being retired! This is my favorite bike ever! Just get one. You won't be disappointed! Thanks to Jim Wilson, for what he has created!!
